Review: Lego 70124 EAGLE LEGEND BEAST

So I had to take care of certain stuff that bought me near Hobbes and Landes on Greenbelt 5.  I knew I should not have passed by since I couldn't resist getting the Eagle Legend Beast from the World of Chima theme.

From the official Lego shop:

Fly high with the majestic Eagle Legend Beast!

Fly across the magical kingdom of Chima with Eris to the Outlands where the Legend Beasts have been captured. Use the CHIGlaxxor axe to keep Scorm, King of Scorpions, at bay and unleash the Eagle Legend Beast to help defeat him. Place Eris onto the flying Beast’s back and surge into the sky. Includes Eris minifigure with a weapon and accessory.

The Box

The bright and colorful box of the Legend Beasts just draws you in.

The back of the box shos you the other Legend Beasts so that you go back to the store and  buy them too! :)   Yep it costs 699 pesos in Hobbes and Landes and most other official Lego distributors in the PH.  I got an 8% discount because of my Team Hobbes card and a cash payment that brought the cost down to about 640 pesos.

The Contents of the Box

The box had two polybags of parts, the instruction manual and a sticker sheet.

The manual is your standard Lego manual showing a step-by-step guide for constructing the Eagle.

The sticker sheet isn't too complex and shows feather highlights for the main Eagle model.

Here are the parts out of their polybags.  I look forward to using most of the parts for future mecha MOCs (My Own Creations - basically original Lego creations).  The wing/feather pieces provide a lot of possibilities for robot/angel wings in future builds.   The legs, limb pieces and hinges of the Eagle also provide for lots of future building options.

The Minifig - Eris

Eris is a member of the Eagle tribe in the world of Chima.

Here's her  official Lego write-up:

While many Eagle Tribe members can be a bit  "airheaded," Eris is always extremely focused and quick-witted, which is probably why she spends more time with the earth-bound creatures (like Laval) than those who live in the clouds. She loves adventures and puzzles, and can spin a yarn like no other creature. She is also an extremely strategic fighter. What she lacks in strength she makes up for with smarts. You have to fight Eris with both your body AND your mind because she always has a trick or two up her wings. She's never mean-spirited... unless provoked. Typically, she's the first to lend a hand, and the last to leave a friend in need. You can always count on Eris. Just don’t let her corner you and tell you jokes – a lot of them aren't as funny as she thinks they are.

Here's the minifig sans the accessories:

The head has dual printing but for the life of me I cannot discern the difference between the two face prints.  The torso section also has a nice backprint.

Here's Eris in full battle gear with her CHIGlaxxor axe and energy shield

Here's Eris seen from the back. I really like the construction of her wings and this makes it possible to make custom minifigs of angels and winged superheroes.

Building the Eagle

You start out with the core body frame for the Eagle.

Then the attachments for the wings and tail are done.

Here's a close up of the head.  I like the brick they use for making the beak as well as the eye bricks.

Here's the unfinished legs of the Eagle:

And here are the legs with the claws attached.

The extra pieces left over after building the kit.  I wish there was another eye piece though.

The finished bird.

Here's the finished kit without any stickers attached.  The Eagle is preparing for flight.

It's an awesome model, especially when the wings and claws are spread out.

A view from the back.

Eris and her Eagle Legend Beast ready for action!

And here with the stickers applied.

And one final look of Eris and her Eagle.

In conclusion
This is my second Legend Beast set.  The first one was the Wolf which was a gift from my girlfriend. I'll put up that review in a future post along with the still unposted review of Gorzan's Gorilla Striker.

It's taking all my willpower not to grab all the sets in this particular series.  The Legend Beast sets offer a satisfying build experience and the parts that you get are useful for future projects.

Until next time everything is awesome!

Review: Lego Creator 3-in-1 Set # 31013

It feels like eternity since I last posted here.  A lot of personal stuff happened.  Well I'm back.

I'll jump in quickly and review this fine small creator box that my awesome girlfriend gave me:

As with any set under the Creator line of Lego this comes with instructions for 3 different models.  I've always been fond of Creator sets that include flying vehicles and this one had two (technically three since hovercrafts also fly in their own manner).

I was going to get it anyway but my awesome gf decided to get it for me!  Thanks hon!

As seen from the picture it's 399 pesos at Hobbes & Landes.  Because I have a Team Hobbes card and we paid in cash we got an 8% discount.

Let's get straight into the action and build this thing:

Inside were two polybags of parts and the requisite instructions.

First up is my favorite build out of the 3 in the instructions the Helicopter.

The helicopter looks like one of those sturdy transport choppers that can do heavy lifitng.

The only thing missing is the landing wheels for this model.  But aside from that it's a beautiful rendition of a helicopter.

Next up is the Plane

Similar to the helicopter the plane is missing the landing gears as the kit generally does not have wheels included.

But the plane is a nice prop driven model.  The strange thing for me is the asymmetrical lights.  One side is green and another is red.  The continuous use of the cup parts as engine parts is a nice touch.

My least favorite model was built last: the Hovercraft

I have the bigger Lego Creator set 31003 which also features coincidentally a helicopter, plane and hovercraft.  And I loved the execution of the hovercraft there.  It has to be said though that 31003 was a much bigger box with much more parts than 31013.

The hovercraft here felt bland and seems to lack details in my own humble opinion.

So at the end of it all I decided to see if I can come up with a robot from all the parts of this particular box.

Here's what I came up with:

This Creator set did not disappoint.  It provided an ample array of bricks that enable a builder to come up with various models.

Thanks hon for giving me this new Lego set.

Everything is awesome!

footnote: I didn't want to start the article with this note.  But this is the first article I've written since my mom died on March 19.  Her gift of Lego when I was 3 years old started my  love affair with the world famous brick toy.  May you rest in peace mom and thanks for introducing me to Lego.

Review: 9489 Endor™ Rebel Trooper™ & Imperial Trooper™ Battle Pack

Here's to my regular dose of Classic Star Wars in Lego form.

This is another battle pack in a line that has proven to be popular with Adult Fans of Lego (AFOL).  Star Wars battle packs are one of the easiest ways to grow your army, whether its the Rebel or Empire side.

This battle pack is one of my favorites since it is set on the forest planet of Endor, home of the Ewoks (unfortunately no Ewoks in the pack :) ).

This is what's inside the box:

Extra tree pieces are always welcome!

A hearty serving of forest colors in the box.  I always love getting extra parts for making trees and more trees.

This battle pack also give us ONE SPEEDER BIKE!  Those are always awesomea and I never get tired of them.

We also have two storm troopers as wells a two Rebel infantry men in Endor forest colors.

Time to build this.  The parts selection also gives me a good assortment for other builds.

BUILDING TIME:

My girlfriend Apple has told me she will be the one building the battle pack!  Ohhh kkkaayyy!  Time to focus on shooting photos of the event. :)

The Tree

I've already mentioned I was  sucker for tree constructions and this set's tree was awesome since it also contains a rebel ambush site.  The extra bricks of brown and green will go towards future MOCs that need trees.

The finished set:

Not a hard set to build and putting it all together gives you this:

Come on guys quit fooling around with the missile!

Rebel trooper awaiting orders.

Okay you fellas forced me to get my bike!

The Speeder Bike!

Is it my turn to ride the bike?

Overall a nice battlepack.  The tree pieces and the speeder bike can contribute to bigger Star Wars builds or to other Lego MOCs.  The 4 figures definitely go into any Star Wars army you plan to gather.
If you have a chance get this battle pack.

Thanks hon Apple for building it! :)

Review: Enlighten 1207 Girls Series Micro Plane

I love my girlfriend!  She decided to surprise with a box from Enlighten!

I love the Enlighten Girls series as it presents Girls in awesome situations albeit sometimes in weird motifs.

This one is apparently a pilot as shown on the box:

Strangely she seems to be wearing a grass top.

The parts come in one sealed plastic bag:

And we get a nice selection of red plane pieces and the minifig itself.  Again it seems the minifig is in a bikini.  Doesn't it get cold while flying?

The wheels are awesome with nice quality rubber.  I'm a sucker for brick toy manufacturers that use rubber wheels on their kits.  It lends an air of quality and class.  Enlighten is one of the bunch that is high on the list in terms of quality.

And here we have our adventurous lady pilot. Cute minifig.  The feel is almost Lego-like.  I still find her costume a bit strange though.

The plane itself wasn't a tough build so here it is with the lady pilot.

A fun set to build.  After looking at it I still wonder how cold it gets up in the clouds.  Apparently her white gloved hands help keep her warm.

Thanks hon for this set!  I think I'll look for the other items in this line.
