Review: Lego Minifigs Series 11 Part 2

Continuing with Minifig series 11 (Part One is here).

The Yeti

This bunch involves one of my favorite minifigs The Yeti!  The yeti looks like a cute white version of Chewbacca.  Plus the popsicle accessory just makes him all the more cuter.

Just look at that facial expression!

Hmmmm blueberry!

The EVIL Robot!

The evil robot goes well with other figs in the same theme.  They can actually form a group that can pass off as power rangers or other sentai teams.  I'm not impressed with the gun though as it uses a gun concept straight out of 1970s Lego space.  But the armor and the helmet are great touches.

The Barbarian

He's a pretty straightforward minifig.  Nothing in terms of gimmicks but he will fit perfectly in with other similarly themed figs.

Where is Rome?

Grahhhhh!

The Mountain Climber

This minifig looks like he came straight out of Sylvester Stallone's movie Cliffhanger.

Very nice bright red colors and the rope and Pick Axe accessories are nice.  The safety helmet is also good looking.

This is my Sly Stallone impression!

All four of them together!

Group shot!

And one more shot guys!

I really like the yeti with the blue popsicle!

Lego Robots Life #001

Oh no!

A love triangle!

Lego Robot minifigs: Black from Series 8.  Male Wind-Up Robot from Series 6.  Female Wind-Up Robot from Series 11.

We must be careful my love! He might know about us!

I've caught you both!

He is mine you crazy robot girl!

Review: Lego Minifigs Series 11 Part 1

One of the Lego themes that people are fond of are the minifigs sets.  These are sets that concentrate on the little Lego people called minifigs.  When the minifig came out it was a generic template of semi-articulated figure with a yellow head, two eyes and a smile.

The minifig was first introduced in 1978 and has since gone an extensive evolution.  For a complete history of it's evolution you can look at this article on Gizmodo: Gizmodo's Evolution of the Lego Minifig.

The current Minifig special sets started coming out in 2010 with minifig series 1.  It is now up to minifig series 11.  Along the way of course there have been special sets with 3 or 4 figures (Read my review of the special rock band set The Lego Rock Band minifig collection and Series 10).  Similar to other small toy collections minifig sets were supposed to be bought individually and you get a random surprise each time.

Well people love it so much that various techniques have arisen to remove the randomization from the process.  I started buying complete unopened sets with Series 8 as I had become friends with the staff of the local Lego store and when a box would arrive they would set aside a complete set for me.

Series 11 took me by surprise and I the staff at the store was also new.  This left me with no advance order for the set.  So it's partly frustrating and partly fun that I now have to track down the entire set individually.

So today I rushed to Hobbes & Landes Greenbelt 5 and was able to get 7 of the 16 figures in Series 11.  Good thing too!  H&L had an on-going 10% off sale on Lego until November 3.

Here's 4 of them:

No. 10 The Welder

Need to weld something?

The Welder offers a nice welding helmet.  Oh and look at that gruff look!

The welder with his helmet on.  Take note of the Acetylene tank!

The helmet is nice of course and the tiny Acetylene tank has a nice decal on it!  The torch attachment also provides a convincing resemblance to the real thing.

No. 15 The Constable

Ok so the constable was a fig I got from my holiday trip to BGC.  It was the only Series 11 packet left in the store and that tipped me off to the shipment of Series 11.  He has nice retro cop stylings.  The cop hat is great plus the truncheon he carries is a good throwback piece.

I am the law here!

The constable kinda reminds me of Batman's own Commissioner Gordon.

No. 11 The Chemist

The chemist reminds me of the fuel engineer from the exclusive Shell minifigs set.  Similar to the Shell female she also carries two chemical bottles with her.

No. 16 Female Wind-up Robot

OH Where is my robot love???

The female wind-up robot provides the perfect partner for the male wind-up robot from Series 6!
It has the same retro stylings as her male counterpart but instead of blue trimmings she has pink!  I truly dig the big wind-up know at her back.  That piece provides plenty of fuel for future projects like making a minifig  wind-up person!

Awesome!

Here's all four of them:

I'll continue the review once I get the other figures in.  Oh and for the sharp ones here you'll probably be pointing out that I only reviewed 4 figs when I mentioned I bought 7 today and 1 when I was in BGC.  That's a total of 8 figs you say, well I'll let my girlfriend build the other 4 so that review will be coming up.

Till then enjoy this one!

Review: Set Number 850486 Rock Band Minifigure Accessory Set

So I've been swamped with work and life.  Hence no posts since August 5.

Dad is in the hospital needing a bypass.  The term is ending in CSB, the school were I'm a part time professor, so finals preparation is needed. And then tropical depression Maring hit the country, cancelling school and work and what ever else was needed to get done.

Well time to partly take my mind of real world concerns and post something here.

This is a review for Lego set 850486  Rock Band Minifigure Accessory Set.

I bought this set almost a year ago I think.  I play bass guitar for an alternative band called Blue With Envy (https://www.facebook.com/BlueWithEnvy) so this minifigure set was an instant purchase when I saw it in Hobbes and Landes

Nice a 3 piece band with a female guitarist!  Sweet!
Sweet 3 piece band!

62 pieces.  I just told myself I was buying 3 minifigures and not an actual building set

Yeah female shredder in the house!

Yo!  Collaborate and Listen!

If they didn't say rock band I would think this guy was a rapper

Yep set 850486!

The band when built.
The price is a bit stiff at 1,499 pesos.  That comes out to about 500 per minifig.  The normal minifigs series cost about 350 pesos as of Series 10.  I guess the additional band instruments played a part in the pricing.
This costs about 30-35 USD online so overall the conversion wasn't so bad at 43 PhPeso per USD.

Unboxing!

Unboxing the band!  The drummer is in the forefront! :)

Here they are in their plastic box.

The pieces were actually assembled way before I had a Lego blog so this was in storage with the instruments built already.  We see the drums mostly here.

The short instructions manual!  Nice!

And here are the minifigs:

The names are my idea haha!

Rocker Girl Guitarist!

This is a good partner to the rocker girl from series 7 (see below) in my minifigs collection!  Although this rocker has a guitar that was actually assembled and not the normal lego guitar accessory.

image from minifigs.lego.com

Upon closer inspection the two figures look like they came from the same template with only the colors and guitar separating them.

Next is the drummer with a mohawk and he also looks familiar.  Like the punk rocker from Series 4

Metal Mohawk Drummer!

images from minifigs.lego.com

So the punk rocker exchanges his guitar and pink mohawk for a green mohawk and drum sticks eh!

And last is the vocalist/rapper guy.

Vanilla Ice!
He also has a similar character from Series 3 of lego's minifigs collection:

Just some subtle color changes, lost the beard and a new pair of shades.  I didn't complete series 3 so I was happy to add this one.

I don't know why...it doesn't even matter how hard i try!!!!!!

The band is complete!

SSSHHHHHRREEEEEDDDD!

Kill those drums!

In the end it doesn't really matter!!!

Yeah!

I give this set two thumbs up and a good way to complete your Lego towns if you ever need a complete band in it.  The price is decent enough and the built up kit is awesome!

Until the next gig!

Review: Lego Minifigs Series 10

Finally after months of waiting its finally here!

One of the my most awaited Lego item every time its new, the Lego minifigures collection.  This is 10th in the series.  Ever since Series 8 I've always talked to our friendly neighborhood Lego distributor to just peg me down for a complete set every time there is one.

Series 10 does not disappoint!  It even comes with a sweet sweet Grandfather minifig.  Unfortunately I was not able to obtain the 17th figure Mr. Gold:

Now to the actual figures I did get:

My favorite in this set is Grandpa!  Nice detailing on his balding head.  One of my favorites is the Trendsetter girl who has an iPhone and a chiuahua and the motorcycle mechanic who looks like he stepped out of the american TV show Sons of Anarchy.

My girlfriend's personal favorite is the Honey Bee girl.  It may just be the cutest in the set.  I can't wait to use this for Wolverine. hahahaha.

Medusa is a nice touch and I now have a base to create Ursula from Disney's The Little Mermaid.

Trendsetter and Motorcycle Mechanic together!

Gramps with a solo!

Three figures that I like from this set

Another favorite of mine the Sad Clown.

Musket guy, Fielder and the Roman General.

One more look at our Son of anarchy!

The Paintball guy!

Last of the Mohicans vibe here!

The Trendsetter up close!

Another one of my girlfriend's favorites:  the Librarian!

The whole gang!

The librarian up close!

If I didn't have a Wonder Woman minifig this would be a close call to be one!

Gramps and the Bee!

A FANTASY wedding? hahaha.

Have fun and do the YMCA!

Sad Clown in a really scary chat!

The whole gang!
